I scanned all these images from an amazing book I own called ‘Fashion Today’. It’s full of the most incredible photographs – there are hundreds, and every time I look through it I manage to bookmark a whole new set of images. It’s nice when you realize that your taste is always evolving, and that you can look at the same image for years without having any sort of reaction to it, until one day something suddenly clicks in you, and you realize it’s the most inspiring thing you’ve ever seen! I guess it would be kind of boring if you were always attracted to the same kind of stuff. Anyway, here is the (extremely edited) result of a few years of bookmarking…
John Galliano RTW 97/98
The image below makes my heart skip a few beats every time I see it. My scan of it is dedicated to my wonderful friend Max… he left Melbourne for Paris a few years ago and doesn’t seem to want to come back :( …I just don’t understand WHY, Max?!?! (Haha). We used to search Camberwell Market on Sundays for Vintage ‘Mosch’. I miss you!!!

Incredible. Never thought I’d be attracted to pink fluffiness but that Vivienne Westwood number is breathtaking. Perhaps I’m evolving too!

Sometimes I think the past was better at the future than we are. The Thierry Mugler 1979 silver outfits are ideal.
The Moschino reminds me of Viktor & Rolf… and the Giorgio Armani seems to me like an outrider of his galaxy dress for Lady Gaga.
It’s very interesting to see which pictures or which parts of the pictures catch somebody’s eye and which associations you make.
wow, i’ve only really just gotten into fashion/fashion photography, these images are so amazing i especially love the one of Vivienne Westwood’s work. i also love terry richardson’s work. and the picture of Jean Paul Gaultier is awesome.
in other words, i love everything here.
oh i also love John Galliano’s work. that photograph is incredible. he is amazing too
I remember seeing the shot of the pink Galliano 97/98 dress years ago when I was around 14 years old in a book about Galliano, and I was so mesmerised that I forked out the $40 to buy it, spending all my holiday cash in one go. It was so worth it, I still love that book to this day and constantly find new sources of inspiration within it even though I’ve looked at the images so many times before.
This is incredible, this Giorgio Armani dress is my favorite but it’s all so fantastic, so many intricate details and bright colors. I’ll have to make a note to remember to buy this book when I have a bit more cash on hand.
Aah, thanks again for true inspiration!
But what has happened to GA since… …just asking… …not to say that YSL has inspired me much in last 5-7 years or so, either. But those tribal collections are so amazing, opulent, daring – ah, feast for eyes…
Happy new year, Nadia & Cami! Make it yours!
