The krazy kids from the Kita-kore building fucken RULE the Japanese scene for DIY… They definitely have their very own aesthetic, which varies between each individual store. Cami blogged images of their stores a while back when she was in Tokyo, some of you might remember? THIS post is from some of the stores in the Kita-kore building and THIS was a post about one of their bruvva stores in Harajuku.
Better than us trying to describe the wonderment, rawness and completely outta-this-world work that comes out of Kita-kore, read the mini bio we popped on the wall next to the work:
Described by CNN as “a dilapidated, post-apocalyptic mall of tiny shrines to a lost-boys subculture of fashion pandemonium. Each little store is a closet-sized space with selections of vintage (the mostly Y-generation owners have an affinity for the 1990s) and re-worked pieces decorated with odds and ends that might be considered weapons in someplaces”
The 5 unique shops are each famous for their own style, original items and custom re-makes. And between them have been dressed the likes of Gaga, Black Eyed Peas and Tokyo’s own Verbal. Those shops are:
Hayatochiri, Southpaw by Nincompoop Capacity, Garter, Dog and ilil.
These are the pieces they created for our THREE collaboration and the images we exhibited:
A HUGE thank you to Rachel from ilil for getting us involved in this killer-collab, it was so much more than just a creativity test. Working with people who, whilst have a quite different aesthetic, are definitely on the same page is an awesome experience. We can’t wait to work with you guys again! Next time though, we all need to visit each other! Tokyo buisness trip – hell yeah! XXX
